FREDERICTON: It’s about time
Posted by are you gonna eat that? under Eating / Food, Maritimes, Restaurants | Tags: buffet, Indian |Fredericton, while abundant in good people and beautiful homes, could not boast the same about its restaurants. That’s slowly changing and finally the city has its first Indian/Pakistani restaurant.
A couple from Montreal ran Chez Riz there for 15 years. But Rizwan-Ul-Haq and Faiza Mushtaq moved to Fredericton after local clients they catered for begged them to relocate.
Chez Riz is now in one of Fredericton’s oldest buildings. They accidentally uncovered original details like tin ceilings and Victorian panelling which have been beautifully restored. I love the atmosphere here.
The menu felt streamlined with basic items and fewer side dishes than I’d expect from other places. I’m not sure if that’s because the kitchen is small or if it’s specifically targeted to Fredericton diners who might not be very adventurous.
Still, the lamb dishes stand out, with tender and large portions. The lunch buffet is a great deal at $9.99 with a generous variety of meat and vegetarian options.
